Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas are tickets to the Gabriola Radio Society’s upcoming variety show, You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio. I want to take the kids, because it’s a family show. I want to be at the Haven when the doors open at 6 p.m., and in my place when the show starts at 7. I want to hear Bob Bossin play, and Jake Galbraith, and Ian Perry, and Antonio Gradanti, and Lou Gradanti and Shed. It will be a fabulous two hours.
Then I want to send the children home and stay for the second show in the Blue Lounge. It’s called, more simply, You Turn Me On, and it’s a little bit risqué. It starts at 10 o’clock, and it ends at midnight, and you never know what will happen in between. People are still talking about last year’s show, where I think a few ended up on your Naughty list.
I want to go because it will help out the Gabriola Radio Society, and the whole idea of a community radio station. The society has finally secured a place on the radio dial, so it really needs money now to build a station for CKGI at 98.7 FM. I want to buy a membership in the Society, and a radio hat and a radio T-shirt. They’ll all be on sale right there at the Haven. Most important of all, I want to find out who’s going to sing the title track, that Joni Mitchell song, Turn Me On, I’m a Radio. Ken Zakreski, President of the Society, says the song is so difficult to sing that he’s still looking for an Islander who can do it. He says, “Maybe we’ll ask Joni, if we can’t find someone locally.” Ha, ha. (He’s only joking, I think.)
I really, really, really want to see this show. It’s going to be fantastic.
Oh, and I nearly forgot … I would also like world peace.
Merry Christmas
