CCD Funding Requirements

CCD funding eligibility

In addition to FACTOR and MUSICACTION, the CRTC considers the following parties and initiatives to be eligible for CCD funding:

National, provincial and territorial music industry associations (MIAs).
Schools and educational institutions that are accredited by provincial authorities. Contributions must specifically benefit students of music and journalism, including scholarships and the purchase of musical instruments.
Initiatives, including talent contests, for the production and promotion of local music and local musical artists – particularly emerging artists.
Independent parties dedicated to producing new spoken word content that would otherwise not be produced for broadcast.
Audio content that further advances the objectives of the Canadian broadcasting system as outlined in the Broadcasting Act. This includes community radio funds, Native radio and other specialized audio broadcasting that serve the needs and interests of children, Aboriginal peoples or persons with disabilities.

Initiatives that aren’t targeted toward development of Canadian audio content will no longer qualify as eligible CCD initiatives. These include:

visual arts exhibitions, theatre and dance
grants to schools and educational institutions that offer courses in broadcasting or are devoted to the continuing education of radio station staff
broadcaster memberships in music associations, and broadcasters’ fees for attendance at conferences

Blue Lounge show line up changes

An author who lists Disease and Desire as two of her Muses will be among the performers at the Blue Lounge show at the Haven on January 7.

Kim Clark, author of the book of quirky short stories, Attemptations, will take the place of the Steve Smith band, which was forced to cancel its appearance due to an illness of one its members.

Clark lives on Vancouver Island. She defines herself as an “author, poet, and occasional outlaw.” Attemptations is her first book, but Clark has published many poems and stories, and has won awards for her writing.

She is a perfect fit for the emptied slot at the Blue Lounge, the adults-only segment of Turn Me On, I’m a Radio, this year’s fundraising show for Gabriola’s community radio station. Her book is darkly humorous, and includes a version of Dick and Jane that was certainly never taught in school. Among the characters in Attemptations is a senior who finds her dementia replaced by burning desire through the bones of a youthful neighbor, a person who slips through a mail slot to start a new life, and a woman who learns that her body is capable of only six more orgasms.

There are two shows at the Haven that night. The first is a family affair beginning at 7 p.m., an hour after the doors open. Featured performers include Bob Bossin, Jake Galbraith, Ian Perry, and Sled. The second, You Turn Me On, is the Blue Lounge show for adults only. Doors open at 10 p.m., and the show runs from 10:30 till midnight.

One show per month for twelve months. Staffing budget for production assistance approved $600 to cover wages. Employee to be hired.

President’s report development and process. “Come Together” shall be the focus and it shall include all the facets of the station start up and tower site proposal.
