CRTC met July 18th to process applications, CKGI was non – appearing, they will retire to consider their decision expected in 2 – 4 months. We would then have 18months to construct the service.
An approval from the CRTC would grant a license for CKGI to use 98.7 FM at 60 watts from Gabriola. Following initial testing then Industry Canada will issue a Broadcast Certificate. The benefits of a community radio station are the operation of the media by the community and for the community. Local radio covers issues important to local residents. Net social benfit is economical, social and environmental as our services will protect land use from other harmful developments.
